Breaking down the Opposition 4

  1. 60x40 yard pitch, split into equal thirds.

  • 8v8 set up with each team set up as 1 GK and 3 defenders in one zone, 3 midfielders in the middle zone and 1 striker in the final zone.

  • Normal game however players cannot leave their zones, the ball can only move through each zone via a pass.

  • PROGRESSION: Allow the player who passes into the next zone to then go and join that zone temporarily to create an overload in the middle zone or a 2v3 in the final zone.

  1. Patience in the build up

  2. Be aggressive & clinical when the chance presents itself to score

  3. Use the overload wisely - can you isolate a defender?

  4. Find & create space

  5. Be creative to open up the defence
