Breaking down the Opposition 2

  1. 40x30 yard pitch.

  • 1 GK, 6 defenders set up in a 4-2 and 7 attackers set up in a 3-3-1.

  1. Play starts with the attackers on the halfway line.

  2. The attackers must try to use their overload (7v6) to open up the defence and score.

  3. If the defenders win the ball they can counter into either of the two mini goals set up on either side of the pitch.

  • PROGRESSION: Change the numbers (8v5 overload for the attackers etc.).

  1. Patience in the build up

  2. Be aggressive & clinical when the chance presents itself to score

  3. Use the overload wisely - can you isolate a defender?

  4. Find & create space

  5. Be creative to open up the defence
